Green Drip!

It's my favorite time of year... The time of year here where Everything
that isn't blooming is Dripping in a million shades of green. The house does
not excite me... Never has. And, if it fell down tomorrow morning I would
not mind one bit. As long as I had already left for work it could fall. But the
English boxwood hedge he planted especially for me and the Japanese maples,
his lawn and little Crabapple tree... Well, these are things I can't live without
Now this... This excites and Calms me all at the same time!
Everywhere I wander there is something to see
We drove by an old garden shop being Torn down and asked
the Contractor what he planned to do with this gorgeous arbor
standing by the gate. He said he would allow us to Haul it off
for $50. We couldn't pay him fast enough! Especially after we
noticed the $695 price tag on it. It's one of my Favorite finds!
And this rose does it justice!
Or maybe it's the Arbor that does the rose justice...
Whichever it is, I just love them both!
Especially right now!
The hostas and Ferns down by the koi pond are so very back!
The pond iris seems to have Sprung up overnight!
If I could bottle this, I bet it could be
prescribed to Lower blood pressure!
Easy seeing green...
Because it's everywhere!
Plants are Cool!
Ferns amaze me!
I told him my Phlox-hill still needs more phlox!
Otherwise, everything else he's doing around here is Fine!
Well, except for that Chicken coop I still need!

Finally, a call!

FINALLY! After no phone call since April 9th, when he told us one of his fellow Rangers and someone he knew was killed, Brandon finally called last night!

I was OVER-worried. Barely able to function the past few days when the phone finally rang at 11:30PM. Thank you, God! is always my first thought when I see those strange numbers on the caller-ID. Brandon's okay. I'm okay.

Are you safe? As safe as I can be.

He can never say much. Always says it'll have to wait until he's home and can see us. I cannot even imagine how happy the day will be!

We love you. I love you too. We miss you. Miss you too. Can't wait for you to come home. Counting down the days. We're almost half-way there. Yeah. Half-way.

Happy Weekend!

We're off to Charlotte this
afternoon. But before we go...
A stroll in the Garden is required!
My beautiful yellow Rambling rose on the arbor popped!
These were hiding under the Ivy at Spa-boy's house...
They've come here to Enjoy our garden now. Looks
like there were just Enough of them for his new path!
The azalea garden behind the pool is Popping too!
This purple one is my All-time favorite!
This Japanese maple was but a tiny Twig last year when I
picked her out... An expensive twig. But just Look at her now!
Maybe she's trying to catch Up with this one!
She is truly the Showpiece of the front yard!
And I love her!
Someone passed his official Master Gardener exam this week... But
he's been passing my Personal Gardener exams for a very long time!

A list of Thanks!

Tonight, after a month of planning and Two weeks of mixing,
rolling, cutting, Baking and decorating, I finished the 300th cookie!
I could not have even Imagined undertaking such a project or executed
it as well as I did without the support, input and Generosity of some pretty
amazing people. People I will always feel indebted to, and want to take
this opportunity, while I can still move my fingers, to thank. First of all,
my husband... The list of ways he has Helped me throughout this project
is too long... Secondly, my dear friend and manager of a Commercial
kitchen. Without his offer to allow me to make out with his 20-quart Hobart
mixer late into the evenings to mix up Twenty-six batches of cookie dough,
and use his kitchen space and blast Freezer to create 382 cookies, I would
have surely blown up my two Kitchenaid stand mixers at home, and
needed another month to finish. Jenny Arata, the force behind LA's
Signature Sweet Shoppe, for her suggestion of doing a photo cookie,
and for offering to Create and print the edible icing sheets I felt too intimidated
to try... Your YouTube videos have inspired me for a long time, and to get to
know you and have you be such an amazing Partner in this project was a Gift! I
do hope that anyone thinking of creating photo cookies will contact you to
experience the same Best-in-Class customer service and kind encouragement
you offered me! To my friend, Michele and her daughters, Kelsie and Hannah who
came over this evening to Package and tie 161 cookie bags in a third of the time it took
me to do Half as many alone last night - Thank you! Thank you for your hard work. For
being even pickier about perfection than I am. And, thank you for the Chit-chat too! A
special thanks to my Bloggie friends, Melanie, Monica, Teresa and Diane for your
constant cheering me on. Also, Bridget who last year, through her blog and e-mails,
taught me to create sugar cookies worth their weight in Gold, and how to decorate them
like a pro! I also want to thank my very special and fabulous friend, Scott Besthorn of
Aveda, Charlotte, for his confidence in my ability to create a logo cookie worthy
of being associated with the Aveda Clean Water 2010 Campaign

Mail from my Dad!

My dad said he thought I would enjoy
this book so he sent me a copy...
He even had the Authors sign it to me...
I love the Title and can't wait to read it!
Thanks, Dad!

Photo Cookies... a bit of a tutorial!

After posting about my Aveda Clean Water photo cookies
last night I received several e-mail requests for the details

So let's talk details, shall we? The best advice tip I can give you about
undertaking a photo cookie project is to Relax... Know you can do it!

Of all the reading I did and all of the advice I was given, the
advice Jenny gave me turned out to be best and, spot-on to
achieving the flawless results I was after. The first step is to
flood-ice the surface of your cookie. Don't worry about piping
an outline. I was determined to pipe an outline to hold my
flood icing in, but I immediately realized it was not necessary
and frankly, it wouldn't work! So let it flow... It'll be okay!

I used a long cocktail pick to smooth the
icing over the surface of the cookies

In between uses I stand my squeeze bottle of icing on
the point to keep the icing loaded into the tip. This cuts
down on time otherwise wasted waiting for the icing
to come back down into the top of my bottle. I keep
a moist paper towel in the bottom of my container
to keep the icing from running out of the bottle

Most of the e-mailers asked me how difficult the icing sheets were to
work with. Truthfully, I lost sleep wondering the same thing! Here is what
you must know... Icing sheets must be kept out of direct sunlight to prevent
fading of your image after printing. Also, they must be kept in an airtight
container or the zippy bag they come in, to Prevent the sheets from drying
out. That being said, the sheets do not dry out instantly, so there is no need
to hurry your work to get to them. In fact!! Trying to peel your icing sheets
from the backing while they are fresh is big trouble! I found them more
difficult to remove than a price tag stuck to a mirror! I did my fair share of
damage to edges of the first few icing sheets I attempted to remove. However,
after I'd left my work station to take a quick call and rushed back, fearing the
sheets I'd left out were all ruined, I found that after they had dried 10-15
minutes is when they lifted away from the backing the easiest! Just lay the
sheet flat, and slide it to the edge of your table and watch them Pop off!

Then take the icing sheet and place it onto your iced cookie

Wa-La!

Now... It's important that your icing sheet lay flat against the
icing. If it doesn't or if there are large air bubbles, your icing
sheet will sink into the voids as it dries. Trust me... It isn't pretty!

This is where a nice coaster comes in handy! I used this one
I've never used before, which when placed onto my icing
sheet atop my cookie, leveled everything beautifully!

Beautiful!

My client requested a crystal sugared border for his cookie
but you could also use Non-pareils in a coordinating color

But do it while the border icing is still wet. I'd read where you could
go back and paint the edge with a little water mixed with meringue
powder using a food-only paint brush but it did not work! As soon
as the wet brush hit the icing sheet, the edible ink (coloring) ran!
I also read something about painting the back of an icing sheet
with corn syrup (=Mess!) and then laying it onto a dry iced
cookie - and there was even a suggestion about painting
the back of an icing sheet with flood icing and then
placing it onto an blank cookie, which I didn't try

This way just worked So much better for me!

All done!

Remember to allow for extra drying time before you wrap
photo cookies. Icing sheets trap moisture so the flood icing
takes Two days to dry instead of the usual overnight dry-time

This is my ingredients label on the back of my cookie
bags, placed just under the Aveda sticker supplied to me
by the store. It tells purchasers what's in my cookies, and
in this case, that they were made Exclusively for Aveda!

Exclusive. As in just for them and not for anyone else!

I hope they Love them!

As much as I heart a certain friend that works there!

SpaBoy and I plan to have lunch tomorrow where I will
hand over the first hundred of my photo cookies!

It's going to be difficult to let them go!
