The Ultimate in Southern Fried Green Tomatoes!

The moment my July/August issue of Taste of the South arrived, I
knew I would be recreating the Fried Green Tomato cover recipe!
Which is exactly what I did after a long, lazy afternoon in the pool!
Now, I've made fried green tomatoes before...
However, this recipe called my name out loud with
the addition of a bacon-infused buttermilk dressing!
For the dressing you'll need: 4 slices bacon, 1/4 cup whole buttermilk,
1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, 1 tablespoon
chopped fresh chives, 1 teaspoon whole-grain mustard, 1/4 teaspoon
salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper and 1 teaspoon chile-garlic sauce (Sriracha).
Note: I used a few dashes of my favorite hot sauce, which was perfect!
Mix everything together, plus one and a half tablespoons
rendered bacon fat. Cover and chill until ready to serve. By
the way, I have to tell you... My herb garden is on fire this year!
Let's fry some green tomatoes, shall we?
But first, while my vegetable oil heats up...
I need to get my thick-cut bacon into the oven!
Forgive me for using a candy thermometer but ever since I
organized my kitchen, I cannot find my deep-fry thermometer!
Dip tomato slices in the buttermilk mixture...
Dredge them in the cornmeal mixture...
And, fry them up!
Don't you just love it when a great recipe comes together?
So deliciously, no less!
But wait, it's about to get even better...
Because the bacon just came out of the oven!
And, we all know bacon makes everything better!
Especially these Southern fried green tomatoes!
Calling them the Ultimate fried green
tomatoes was not an exaggeration!
If you'd like a copy of the complete recipe, drop me an e-mail
at and I'll be happy to share it with you!

  1. It's looks delicious! I have to say, I'm relieved that there is someone else who gets organized, then cannot find something, besides me!

    1. Oh, Nancy... Trust me, you are NOT alone! xo
